Alternative Fuel? What is your view on alternative fuel energy? producing synthetic fuels from renewable feedstocks such as animal fat and grease, is this for real or is this just bs? thanks for your input
What is the cleanest alternative fuel that has been discovered ? I know each alternative fuel comes with a price (as does everything). The extracting of hydrogen is supposedly not environmentally friendly, this being one of the prices of its implementation. I am not an expert on the subject though. Does anyone know what the cleanest alternative fuel available or that has been found is ? I also am wondering what some of the pros and cons of some of the others are. I suppose cleanest could mean one that is the most environmentally and economically friendly source available so far.
How good is hydrogen as an alternative fuel? Hydrogen has a few problems. It takes energy to make it. It takes plenty of space to store it. How do you get around these problems to make it a viable option for a motor vehicle? Can somebody give me an idea of how this stacks up as an alternative vehicle fuel. How large does a tank need to be to get reasonable vehicle range? How does it go for Cost? Environment? etc. Please supply links so any claims can be verified.
Can anyone explain the alternative fuel and new technology part of the stimulus bill? OK, I know that this will allot for jobs for many sceintists researchers and technology professionals the problem is I don't really see scientist and researchers in unemployment lines. To steal a point form Obama's visit to Indiana yesterday... how is alternative fuel and new technology bail out money going to provide jobs to the thousands of laid off workers in Elkhart IN? Are the many blue collar workers and retail workers that are flooding the unemployment offices? Are you seeing the disconnect? I'm not trying to be overly critical but do you see the obvious crack in this thing? Blueberry, sweetie, I am not not insupport of Obama, I voted for him but I will not do what republicans did when bush was in power and just write the guy a blank check because of his party affiliation. He needs to SLOW DOWN! The fact of the matter is that the point you made is a good point but the timing is bad. Gas prices and all of that crap has very little to do with putting unemployed low skilled labor back to work and that is the point of what we are trying to do. There will be a time for energy issues, the time is just not now!
ALTERNATIVE FUEL SOURCE: Can we use the Algae in Chinese waters to develop carbon-based fuels? Has anyone seen the news broadcast about the massive tons of Algae floating in Chinese waters, and how many volunteers are helping to remove it, for the Summer Olympics in Beijing? I wonder if any of this could be used to develop alternative fuels in addition to ethanol-based gasoline. Some countries are already using sugar-based ethanols and corn-based fuel. Why not this Algae, there is a huge surplus of it? Is it theoretically and chemically possible? Jasmine 215
Are alternative fuel vehicles the solution to the upcoming global, oil, shortage? Experts predict that within the next 7years there will be a global, oil, shortage. The USA, Brazil, Russia, China, India and Saudi Arabia are demanding more oil than they ever have. The demand will continue to increase, but the output of oil will not. Will alternative fuel vehicles be the solution to a global, oil, shortage?
Are incentives for alternative fuel production effective? I assume that they are, but can anyone find credible sources in the US (preferably in the US, but also in other countries) that show that incentives and grants help spur alternative fuel production or other innovative automotive production. Sources, please!
Why is there a lack of initiative from the Bush Administration on Alternative fuel research? Republican’s argument for cutting taxes is that it is "proven effective". O.K. Jimmy Carter proved during his administration that government spending in alternative fuel research via investment initiatives and government grants drops oil prices substantially, as the cartels move to destroy the profit-making potential of energy alternatives. How can one explain this administration's lack of initiative in this area when 1. Our national security is at risk and 2. It has been proven effective at lowering oil prices.
Who would like to see an alternative fuel source other than gasoline? What would be the best alternative fuel source for Americans to use?Should automakers begin to drastically redesign cars to run on different fuels right now?Has anyone changed their means of transportation yet? I am driving a Yamaha Jog Moped Scooter now to fight high gasoline prices! lol
What do you think of alternative fuel sources for gas? Since gas prices are up, even during the war and Mideast crisis, what you do think other alternative fuel sources for gas that's much cheaper, like crops? This info is for a future nonfiction article. (I'm not sure what gas would be in the cars and transportation category. Am I right to choose commuting?)
When we run out of oil, how long will it take us to find an alternative fuel source? Well, when we run out of oil, how long do you think it will take us to discover an alternative, economically reliable fuel source? When everything goes into turmoil, there will undoubtedly be thousands (and possibly even millions) of minds trying to figure out a new fuel source, and of course governments will probably be more willing to listen to people with alternative ways. Let me known if you disagree with anything I've put forward, and what your thoughts are. Thanks!
How can I get alternative fuel stations into WV? There are no alternative fuel stations within 100 miles of where I live... as a matter of fact, there are no dealers that sell hybrid vehicles in that radius either. I'm out of ideas. I've sent e-mails. I've signed petitions. What's next?
Alternative Fuel, will it overtake oil as our primary fuel source? Hi, What are the main reasons why alternative fuels will not overtake oil as our primary fuel source? One of the most clear reasons is that it will become too expensive to change, but what are some of the other arguments why it will not overtake oil as our primary fuel source?
Can a 2000 Buick Century run on any kind of alternative fuel? I've been researching some on alternative fuels lately, namely E85 and CNG. And so far, it doesn't look like our 2000 Buick Century will run on any of them. Is this true? And where can I find concrete documentation if it will run on one? Also, any idea of how much conversion for certain alternative fuels might cost for a 2000 Buick Century?
If an alternative fuel for oil is discovered, who stands to be the most negatively affected? Automobiles were invented over one hundred years ago. Wouldn't you think, in all that time, someone would come up with a better, cheaper, more environmentally friendly, alternative fuel by now? Are certain people preventing us from learning about them...if they exist? It would be worth a lot to keep us in the dark. And, yes, I've heard about "vertical farming" of corn or sugar, as opposed to horizontal farming, but it seems pretty odd.
Why are we continuing to support ethanol as a good alternative fuel? -Ethanol is made with sugar. We don’t make sugar real well, so we make corn…which than has to be processed to get out what we need. This adds another step to the process. Every time you add a step you add to the cost. As well as raising the costs in other sectors because the cost of corn goes up, which makes it more expensive to feed cows…you can see where this is going… -With farmers growing the corn as fast as they can, they are ruining the soil. Which, by the way is replenished with manure from the cows and made with oil -So, you say, you would rather support the Midwestern farmers than the big fat oil companies…Trust me the little farms are all owned by big, fat companies too. -Brazil is more than willing to tear down the entire rainforest to make this sugar for us, but now we are tearing down the rainforest that clears the world of much of its carbon gases, which is the original reason that we are making alternative fuels in the first place.
how much fossil fuels does it take to create an alternative fuel? I need solid proof! I am a college student doing a research paper for a class so please include references ie. websites where I can pull up the information. Now let be real! It cost fossil fuel to plant, harvest, transport, and produce most if not all alternative fuels including solar energy. I am looking for the report or study that gives the information. Thank you
Which alternative fuel will eventually replace oil? Hi! I'm doing a research paper and I would like to know your opinions as to which alternative fuel you see as the eventual successor of oil. 1) Hydrogen 2) Ethanol 3) Solar power 4) Wind power 5) Battery power (hybrid cars) Thanks!
what are the Alternative Fuel Vehicles ? Now a days petrol is being so expensive so that i have to compel find other options for running my vehicle. As i am an Indian businessman , and i have to daily run here and there for my business work. I try to find the solution and i think its a problem of every common man. So please help me to find the solution of this problem. and suggest me the Alternative Fuel Vehicles.
Alternative fuel outside of biodiesel or hydrogen peroxide? I was wondering if there were other alternative fuels out there that requires minimal modifications to the car's engine outside of biodiesel or hydrogen peroxide? Someone else asked about hydrogen peroxide on this site and I looked up H2O2 already.
What is the best alternative fuel? I am doing a project for Penn State, and I am a student at a local middle school, I need to design a brand new alternative fuel powered vehicle.
Has anyone any experience in propane as an alternative fuel for autos? I work for a nation wide corporation that has several hundred medium duty delivery trucks on the road. They run on propane. Propane is a very environmenally friendly fuel, but the alternative fuel sticker thatmust be affixed to the windshield costs $300.00 per vehicle anually. Can anyone explain why this is? This is not road tax, this is payed also.
Does anyone know of alternative fuel being considered by NASA? I'm doing a project for school and I need information on at least 3 alternatives fuel sources for rockets..like, the NASA rockets. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and if you know anything on the price, danger level, abundance or location, please include that. Thank you so much!
What will happen if water is an alternative to fuel? Scientist had discovered that water can be used as an alternative to fuel. 70% water + 30% fuel and its carbon chains must not break down. If this is really happening, should human race for water, start boundring their area and apply for title deed, just like land.
How many people support bio diesel as a fossil fuel alternative? To grow the crops neccessary to make bio diesel feasible, it would require a HUGE amount of land development, destroying wildlife habitat in the process. Let's not forget that with each crop rotation, the nutrients are being taken from the ground and have to be replaced, which would require fertilizer to be added EVERY year. What about the pesticides that have to be applied to protect the growing crops every year? And what about the fact that there are MILLIONS of starving people who could benefit from food crops being planted instead of fuel alternatives. Any other thoughts? I am just curious as to what others think.
When will we come up with an alternative fuel? with gas prices rising i was wondering if there is ever going to be an alternative fuel because im going to start driving soon and the gas prices dont look good. I knew that we have ethanol and that stuff but i was wondering about like hydrogen and things that don't involve oil
What about alternative fuel motorcycles? Would you be interested in bikes that run on E85? What about one that runs on biodiesel? What about one that runs on a hydrogen fuel cell? What about electric or other than can be fueled with solar? Or will you ride gasoline and only gasoline bikes?
Is an alternative of fuel can help stopping global warming? Hello Friends, While watching discovery channel I thought this question, and I was just wondering about it. People are thinking of electric vehicles, which can be an alternative of fossil fuel and reduce pollution, which can help reduce global warming. However, if you think deeply from where this electricity comes from? Almost from coals or radioactivity! This is a basic source of pollution. By looking at this, what do you think is this a real alternative of our problems? Please reply to this question. I will be glad to see the replies from all of the wonderful users and thankful to Yahoo! Answers.
Why is Ethanol the targeted choice Alternative Fuel? I just saw an article that gives a bunch of reasons NOT to use corn-based Ethanol. Especially since it's one of our base grain foods. Why aren't they going with Biodiesel - the veggie van, that was a great example. Plus in Texas, there's a ton that runs all of their garbage trucks off greenenergy made from their landfill. Which they've in turn made into a fuel processing area. If you watch YouTube there are tons of alternative energy choices we could be making in the US. How do we get more people to discover what we have the ability to do now; then while we set it up and use it, continue to try improving it. Why is it that things that make sense are so hard to get acted upon? The largest problem with Ethanol is that it uses up fossil fuel to produce it. It isn't efficient in production or in use. It doesn't equal out production cost/energy to consumption/usage. So besides taking away a food source (read labels - corn, corn syrup, etc ) it also is more costly to produce it. Especially since they're using old energy to create it. While biodiesel has been used for decades on farms and is cheaper to produce. So political seems to be the key to backing it would seem. How about a grassroots movement to choose biodiesel? Just as many states have chosen to honor the Kyoto plan dispite the gov't not signing it. If they won't do what we want, we enforce it state by state. If the gov't has stopped working for the people - then the people need to start working for themselves.
Could pee be an alternative fuel source? me and my friend were talkin about this (one of them really had to go =]) and im woundering if pee can be used as an alternative fuel source? also, what other weird stuff could be used? i heard one guy used leftover oils and stuff from a nearby chinese restaurant to fuel his car. lol i bet that exhast smelled good.
Does the USA need a "Manahattan project" for an alternative fuel vehicle? The Cheverolt Volt and Honda's FCX Clarity looks promising. By the time these alternative fuel vehicles become common, americans might be riding bicycles. The president of OPEC said the USA must conserve and $4.00 per gallon is too cheap for conservation. The USA put a man on the moon and developed the first atomic bomb. Why not develope the first readily available alternative fuel vehicle within the next 5years?
