Is it true driving a scooter is fuel efficient and safer than driving a motorcycle?
Gas prices are just (UGH!) I am not the best driver out there as is. I was thinking of buying a scooter since they are cheap and fuel efficient. Would they be safer than a motorcycle?

- Most scooters, even small (250cc) ones will get you down the highway (65 m/hr) on the cheap. They are no more (or less) dangerous than motorcycles. A scooter will get you a little better mileage. My 96" Hog gets about 50 on the highway. It weighs 800+ pounds. A little scooter will get in the 100 mi/gal. area.
- Many of the scooters get better mileage because they have smaller engines than motorcycles. Safety is dependent on the rider and not the ride. You could say a 50cc scooter is safer than a 1000cc sport bike because it is slower but that is like saying a small airplane is safer than a jet for the same reason. It comes down to how each is operated.
- yes
- "Would they be safer than a motorcycle?" YOU decide! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4puojV5bh0E
- It depends on the engine size, cubic capacity. - 50cc uses far less than a 490cc Scooters can be powered by electric, Gas (LPG)
- Yes as long as you are very careful and leave earlier in the mornings and later in the afternoons....
- As a scooter driver, I say NO! I drive a 153cc, so it'll get up to about 70mph with 80-100mpg depending on how I drive it. The reason I say it's not as safe is because most scooters are smaller and less noticable than a bigger bike like a harley or goldwing. They are also VERY quiet. People won't hear you next to them and therefore may not look before turning into your lane. With a motorcycle, it's a lot easier to speed up and get out of a tricky situation, where as a scooter is a lot slower and you might not be able to get out of things in time. If you drive safe and 100% defensively, then you'll be fine.
