How many pounds in your car , equals one mpg savings?

Just wondering if anybody knows or has an intelligent guess of how many pounds in your car equal to every one mpg (mile per gallon).... ? It would be cool if i had a formula to calculate how much i expect to spend when i add weight to my trips. I assume maybe Truckers might be of help? I would think extra weight would be the same loss of mpg regardless of the type of vehicle. but lets say a 2003 Chevy Avalanch. highway driving. ac on

  1. I don't believe this is an answerable qustion. Every thing is in relation to your car's weight, engine size, type (car, suv, etc.) and your driving habits.
  2. Too many variables. Tare (Base) weight of vehicle Age of vehicle Horsepower Torque Aerodynamics Type of driving Gasoline or diesel
