What is bio-diesel fuel ? Where does it come from? Why is it considered cleaner than gasoline?

What exactly is bio diesel fuel and where does it come from? Is it any different from just diesel? Like the diesel pumps at most gas stations? Is it a fossil fuel? I know it is being touted as an alternative fuel but what makes is it so different and cleaner than gasoline ?

1. it's renewable.. we grow it the difference is the other stuff is safely tucked away underground, and it's full of carbon. at this point, it's too late however. i say we just all take swimming lessons.
2. its made from old vegetable oil and grease used in cooking at fast food restaurants since its not fossil fuel and doesnt have pollutiony emissions, its considered cleaner since its veggie, its cleaner than that smelly stuff we use now
3. Biodiesel is MacDonalds fry oil after it is worn out. In other words oil derived from grain oils that you see in the grocery store. Renewable resource. Right now it is mixed in with the diesel just like the alcohol/gas combination green fuel. Second. Diesel engine(by the nature of their method of operation) burn cleaner than spark gas engines. They rely on the fuel injected timing to be 100% on otherwise they will not run at all. Gasoline requires spark plugs which can be advanced or retarded varying the burn time in the cylinder. Also the air volume was adjusted(on a cold engine it is reduced(or choked) allowing for a richer mixture of gas/air to ignite to get the car started. So there is more noxious gases created during this period. Diesels have no control on the air volume. It is always the same mixture. What you see coming out of the stacks is not fully burned diesel(so that is why you see smoke on logging trucks up hills). It is dirty, it is not a poisonous gas as it flitters back to the ground. Also gas engines can run while they are in extremely poor shape.....instead of 120+psi per cylinder you can keep it running with half that(and at this point it will be burning oil(that blue smoke) . Not with diesels. As it runs at 400 psi, if it is below 300, it is being rebuilt it don't run.
4. first of bio means its grown, its based off of corn oil etc. it has virtually no hydrocarbons in it so it runs far cleaner than commercially availible diesel fuel.rudolph diesels' engine ran on peanut oil.
