How does a hybrid car work, step by step?

Do you know any sites that explain in detail how a hybrid car works? For ex, from the begining of turning on engine it sends a signal...etc. maybe something like that, that explains it in detail. or if you know for yourseld share the wisdom! =) I am writing a process essay for my english class thats why.
