is it more fuel efficient/economical to drive by freeway rather than stop and go driving?

Public Comments

  1. Yes, because braking and idling are the most wasteful uses of gas
  2. The faster you drive the more fuel you use.
  3. Yes, a steady speed is more fuel efficient than stop-and-go.
  4. every single fosil fuel only vehicle sold in America comes with EPA ratings that prove city driving uses more fuel then freeway driving. The only exceptions are the hybrid cars that use inertia as a means to charge the batterys thereby keeping the gas engine from coming into use with light throttle and lower speeds. Some of these cars actually do get better city ratings then freeway.
  5. Generally, for non-hybrids, freeway driving is more fuel efficient than city driving.
  6. yes, because u waste more gas idling and accelerating from a stop than staying at the same speed. my car gets 29mpg freeway driving and only 20 residential
  7. Yes. That is one of the reasons why on window stickers fuel estimates are higher for highway. Also its a more steady use of fuel not the constant mashing on the gas to get going.
  8. yes, but it also depends, if u go <65 then u waste as much as in stop n go traffic, but if u go around 60 then its both fuel efficient/economical
